The Greater Phoenix Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (GPGLCC) has developed a Business Equality Index for Valley employers.
The index is intended to measure local businesses' (up to 500 employees) and local government entities' commitment to equal treatment of their lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender (LGBT) employees. It is modeled after the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Corporate Equality Index, a well-respected survey which is completed annually by private-sector employers with more than 500 employees. This Greater Phoenix area survey is one of very few local initiatives conducted in the United States.
At the close of the GPGLCC survey, a report will be produced and distributed that identifies the highest-scoring employers, in order to recognize and celebrate them. All other results will be summarized to represent the remainder of the findings.
Employers that are interested in additional guidance on creating safe and welcoming environments and maximizing the contributions of their LGBT employees will have access to free consulting services through the GPGLCC.
A diverse community with a vibrant LGBT presence is good for a region's economic development, competitiveness and ability to attract and retain high-impact employers with knowledge workers who seek diverse and exciting cities in which to live.
